Artist: Marvin Dabideen

My name is Marvin Dabideen. I was born in Trinidad and now live and work in Flint, Michigan. I have earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting at the University of Michigan Flint in 2009.

The healing power of art is the ideal I strive for as an artist. My paintings are figural narratives that incorporate the ideas of spirituality, science, human nature and man’s relationship with nature. I believe that art operates on a physical and metaphysical basis, serving to educate and provide solutions for the viewer as well as the artist.

In 1999 I graduated from Baker College with an associate degree in Interior Design. From 200 through 2005 I worked for Art Van Furniture as a visual display coordinator when I left to follow my dream of creating art.

For four years I spent my time creating and selling stained glass mosaics in art shows and around Michigan. Always feeling the need to keep learning and creating new things, I switched over to beading roses out of seed beads and making vintage type jewelry. It has been only two successful years with the jewelry but I am already planning my next venture.
